Edition 01: Burnout, Basil, and the Magic of a Tuesday Bath

Is it a newsletter? An email blast?

Maybe it’s just an outlet. A space for me to share the things I love, and to place those things gently into the hands of the people I love.

I recently joined a creative collective, and it’s reinvigorated a sense of purpose in me—even as I find myself questioning what that purpose really is. I’m trying to return to the things that bring me joy, while muddling through my early 30s and the first few months of motherhood.

I can’t believe how quickly time has passed.

When I look at my child—how much she’s grown and changed in just four months—I suddenly realize: I’ve grown and changed too.

Yes, in all the mental and emotional ways motherhood demands. But also physically.

I found my first gray hair (promptly removed, of course), tired eyes, maybe even the start of a few wrinkles. I look at her, and I look at myself, and I realize how swiftly time moves. And with that realization comes the desire to spend more time doing the things I love, and far less doing the things I don’t.

So here we are. My first... something. Newsletter? Journal entry? Maybe just a love letter to stress relief.

I spent most of my 20s in a fast-paced job, in a city that demanded more than I could give. My days were packed, my nervous system on high alert. I didn’t realize how much stress I was carrying—it just became my normal.

My shaman—during a particularly painful acupuncture session—told me that if I didn’t get my stress under control, I’d “literally die.”

My body, though quietly, was asking me to slow down—in the only way our bodies know how to communicate: breakouts, bloating, nightmares.

Looking back, it wasn’t about how I looked. It was about how I felt.

Mentally, emotionally, physically—I was depleted.

So, this is me starting something new.

And with that, I want to share something that’s been helping me de-stress in a beautiful, sacred way.

The Tuesday Ritual Bath

Tuesdays are the day you're supposed to do it. According to the women who shared it with me (and a little bit of astrology), it’s a day good for cleansing your aura—and honestly, it’s just a really relaxing way to start the week.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Organic basil, sage, and rosemary—buy a bunch of each.

You might be wondering—why basil, sage, and rosemary?

When you boil them and soak in them, something really beautiful happens. The body softens.

Here’s what each one does:

Basil
This one is for calming. It helps relax your nervous system and is great if you’re feeling anxious or just tense in your body. Energetically, basil clears out mental fog and brings in a kind of gentle clarity.

Sage
Sage is the protector. It’s super grounding, and traditionally used to cleanse energy—not just a room, but you. If you’ve been feeling off or like you’ve been absorbing too much from other people (or the world in general), sage helps you shake that off. It’s also anti-inflammatory and really good for the skin.

Rosemary
This one is for energy. Not the jittery kind—more like a quiet alertness. Rosemary wakes up your circulation and brings your body back online if you’ve been feeling sluggish or scattered. It also smells incredible and feels like it clears out mental cobwebs.

Step-by-step:

  1. Place the herbs in a big pot of water and bring it to a boil.

  2. Once boiling, turn it down and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
(You can also let it steep for up to 6 hours if you have the time.)

  3. Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.

  4. In the meantime, run a bath—as hot as you can comfortably handle. The heat helps relax your muscles.

  5. Strain out the herbs (unless you like floating leaves, though might be a pain for your drain!).

  6. Pour the herb-infused water into your bath, and soak for 20 minutes.
No phone. No scrolling. Just you, the water, and the quiet.

  7. Release - the herbs and the hot water are here to help you let go of unwanted thoughts, patterns, stresses.

*NOTE: No phone. No scrolling. Just you, the water, and the quiet.

It’s so calming, so grounding, and when I do it right, I always sleep like a baby afterward.

I hope this helps you relax and rejuvenate your week. I’d love to know how it goes.
